Living – Girls Night Out |
We finally made time in our schedules to go see “Sex and the City 2”. It was a good excuse to check out the new Studio Movie Grill at CITYCENTRE. Our first bit of wisdom to pass along is that it is beneficial to get your tickets online before you go. The line was long and we didn’t see any kiosks for self-serve. While we waited, we noticed the full service bar in the lobby! Interesting! Once in the theater, and settled into the VERY comfy swivel seats, we checked out the menu. It consists mainly of pizzas (the greek one is AWESOME), sandwiches, salads, burgers, appetizers and wraps. All in all, the venue was really nice. Waaaayyyy better than Alamo Draft House. So, on to the movie……we loved it! I’d see it several more times just to see Liza Minnelli sing and perform Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”. We were compelled to look up Liza’s age after seeing this. She’s 64! I think she’s had some work done??? Anyway, she was great! But most of these ladies are no longer single. They jump at an opportunity to get out of town. It’s an escape that comes exactly at the right moment for the 4 friends, who are finding themselves in --and fighting against --the traditional roles of marriage, motherhood and more. There are so many good moments in this one I want to go back and see it again. We highly recommend it. Sometimes, you just have to get away with the girls. After we left the movie, we strolled down the courtyard to a Singaporean restaurant called “Strait”. We had already eaten but decided to sit outside in the little cabanas that are on the inner square and have a glass of wine. It's a great place to relax outside on a not so hot night and people watch. Of course, being women, we eventually had to visit the restroom. That’s where it got interesting! You go inside and follow the sign entering the restroom….then you are facing a symbol that we recognized as the “mens” room. Feeling embarrassed, we backed out thinking we had made a wrong turn. But no…..it clearly had a “man” and a “woman” on the sign and there was no other door to enter!!! Ok, so now we are in the unisex bathroom. Right next to the men’s stalls are the women’s stalls. And the sinks are shared by all. We were trying to be big girls and go with the flow (pun intended) but I’m just not comfortable re-applying my lipstick next to a man I don’t know. And really, as women, we go to the bathroom to do so much more than pee. What if we wanted to gossip about some man and he walks in or even worse walks out of one of the stalls while we were in mid sentence? Awkward! |
